Glazing with a chisel brush 03/05/19

  • 55 British pounds
  • Grove farmhouse, Lundy green, Hempnall, Norfolk, NR15 2NU

Service Description

This workshop is aimed at absolute beginners and those who have attained a competent level of application technique, but would like to experiment with different approaches. Gilly is able to run the same subject at beginners and improvers level, so no one is left feeling out of their depth.. In this workshop we will be exploring how to build up layers of translucent washes wet on dry, this is called glazing, we will be using large chisel head brushes which will result in a beautifully crisp painting which has simplified colour shapes. This approach helps to break us of the habit of being over 'fiddly' with our application, which may have resulted in our paintings looking muddy or 'knitted' rather than washed, as every brush mark has to count. We will also benefit from learning how to see big colour shapes, as we use a big brush, we will have to edit the detail we are seeing in front of us, it is much easier to paint everything we see, because we are not having to make decisions about what to leave out, it is important to see big colour shapes, because these shapes form the basis of every composition underlying a good painting. Gilly will guide you through exercises enabling you to recognize big shapes, in an easy to understand step by step way, which is designed to be fun and informative This listing is for non residential workshops, Residential students can pay separately and is an extra £50.00 per night, and will arrive late afternoon the day before the workshop, and enjoy an evening meal, a luxury bedroom, followed by breakfast before the workshop starts. If you wish to view the rooms and house, please click on the "Georgian house' link on the title page, which will take you to air b&b, but please do not book through air b&b as their fee does not include an evening meal which Gilly will provide the night before class. Students are asked to arrive early evening the day before a workshop, and can bring a non painting, room sharing partner at an extra cost of £10.00
